glue.

yesterday i was scolded for neglecting my blog.

tonight i was working on my stupid model gallery project. i felt like i was in fourth grade building a model of a mission or something. only this time i didn't have my dad to help and give me guidance.

first i had to go to walmart (ew) (but thanks for taking me jackie!) because target was closed.

so i got home and measured and drew up the blue prints on the foam core. and then it was time to cut. i got all the walls and stuff cut out and i was ready to glue.

while gluing everything together i got a little gorilla glue on my hands. i tried washing them with soap and water. that only seemed to make everything worse. corinne suggested trying nail polish remover. that didn't remove the glue... instead pieces of the cotton ball that i was using to wipe it off just got stuck to my hand.

i ended up soaking my hands in hot soapy water and scrubbing with some exfoliating face wash for about 20 minutes. now my skin just feels rough and weird.

gallery methods.

my favorite class this semester is gallery methods.

the 8 of us in the class are responsible for maintaining our on campus gallery. so far i have learned how to hang art, i have filled tons of nail holes, and i have painted a few walls.

the other thing my class does is put together the student art competition. we were supposed to put a poster together for the comp. and this is what kelly and i came up with.

yesterday i went on an adventure to salvation mountain with alisha, josiah, and kevin.

seriously the coolest thing ever.

on the way there we stayed on the 10 a little too long and ended up in the middle of nowhere. 

it was a cool place for a quick photo tho.
the self timer feature on cameras was a wonderful invention.
seriously i have had a great summer so far. i have loved spending time with lots of different people and getting to do some awesome things.

when you grow up

in third grade i had to do an oral report on what i wanted to be when i grew up.

and i did my project on the ancient art of painting your nails.

i wanted to be a nail technician. 

i researched the history of paining your nails. i interviewed a girl who worked at a nail salon.

for my visual aid i got a bunch of fake nails and painted different designs on them.

this was serious business. 

now when people ask me what i want to be when i grow up i really don't know what to answer. 

art journals

so i really want to start art journaling.
it just seems like an awesome way to express yourself.

i have been reading a few blogs about this: thrifty collage artist, and a beautiful mess among others.

but the thing is i really need to start collecting scraps, pictures, textures, and other things so i can start this process.

and i need to figure if i need a journal or if i need to just make individual pages and then bind them at a later date.there are some pre made ones at this etsy store. but i don't know if thats cheating.

Im so over drawing this pear. Its been a long day. I feel especially emo. And i just want to lay down. And im hungry. And people keep letting me down. I dont know why i ever put my faith in people. All earthly things will ever do is leave me feeling empty. And im over the emptyness.

first class, spray paint.

yay school.

like i really love learning. in the past i had always been excited about school because of the social aspect, but i finally am excited about the learning.

why the switch?
well i am only taking art and graphic design classes.


we got a new guy for graphic design and im super excited about where he is taking the program here.

some of the course materials i need for my classes are things that i totally wanted for my life anyway.
like a self healing cutting board and spray adhesive.
because i am totally in love with making stencils and spray painting.that's me with a little lamb (rachel means ewe) i ended up outlining the spray paint with sharpie just to make it stand out more.

secret outing #2

i surprised heather, jackie , and julia with lunch at tio's tacos.
its this crazy sweet mexican restaurant. the food is kinda nothing special. well heather's chicken burrito was real good. so i recommend the chicken burritos.

but better than the food is the crazy art. the owner of the resturant has taken a bunch of random junk and turned it into fountains and statues.
so i never know weather to put the expiation above or below the pictures. today we are going to go with above.

a man and woman made out of toys. the womans dress is made out of barbie dolls. this is a chapel made out of old bottles. there are seats and an alter and a holy water holder thing on the inside. the ceiling is painted . its pretty remarkable.

i have pretty much have been blessed with some stinking awesome friends who accept random outings like this.

so as an art major i am allowed to sit here pondering art and beauty. what is art? is this stuff art? is it junk? does art have to beautiful? aesthetics? color? composition?
kinda off topic, but also related- i realy want to take a welding class. like i think if i got a torch and a bunch of steel i could make something pretty rad. mind you this is just a hypothesis. but i do want to try.

i think its awesome that the first verb in the bible is created. and i mean i am created in God's image. so now i need to get out there and create. and be creative.

i am anti-anti-valentines day.

i think its silly when people are super anti valentines day.

its like the day of love. so whats not to love?

i have also been listening to manchester orchestra non stop.

lunch time.

this mobile blogging thing is cool. and convenient.

today at lunch i crafted this creature.
its an owl.

so at this point i am a real artist.

speaking of owls go listen to owl city. super up beat. and positive. and christian.

a blog is a great excuse to procrastinate.

so i have a big presentation due tomorrow (technically today).
in my english class i am writing a research paper about the value of graffiti as art. the paper is not due for three more weeks but for some reason i have to present my findings to class tomorrow.

i am almost done but i cant stay focused.

i feel more pressure to deliver an interesting presentation because graffiti is cool and edgy. and i am cool and edgy. so of course my presentation should be cool and edgy.

i wish i had just written about nuclear physics so people would just tune me out and not actually listen to what i have to say.

i sat down at my mac to start it yesterday but didnt get very far. i found some more research so now i have about 20 articles (but i really need to actually read them now).

and i am a professional procrastinator so all day i have found things to distract me.
mostly things normally wouldn't do: reading for other classes. cleaning my room. making the bed. doing dishes.
and then i had a legitimate excuse:
chelsea and hannah! (pictured below at my last beach trip with the high school (we were playing some crazy picture game))
today there are about a million high school seniors at cbu for the preview day.

so right now as i "work on my presentation" they are sleeping on the floor behind me.
SCRATCH THAT. chelsea is sleep talking and hannah is telling her to stop sleep talking and go to bed. haha. that was funny.

ok. well i have checked my email, facebook, myspace, google analytics, my blog roll, and written a blog. its time to get back to work.
i realize that was not parallel structure, sue me.


actually i am going to get one more glass of water. then work some more.
well i might as well use the bathroom one more time.

so in my graphic design class right now we are working on cd cover projects.
im designing a fake cover for my brother.

its supposed to be in illustrator by tomorrow but my program kept shutting down on me. over and over again. :[

so i just decided to move in a different direction and make a robot out of construction paper. so i will have something to show the class tomorrow.so i just realized i keep starting sentences with so.
the robot will be playing the keys. in my mind this cover is real cool. hopefully i can transfer the image in my mind to the computer.

doll house.

so i came across this band. Vonnegut Dollhouse while reading some random art blogs.

the music is so-so. but the album art is awesome. like i really want it, even though i would probably never listen to the cd.
i guess thats the impulse-online-shopper in me.
dont worry i resisted the urge.

graphic design

im currently an art major at cbu.
i say currently because im thinking about changing it to graphic design.


when i grow up i want to be an art teacher.
but i could also be a graphic design teacher. but i dont know if graphic design teachers even exist

i really like the idea of teaching art because that is a subject kids usually take because they want to be there. and i wouldnt have to assign tests or homework. so i wouldnt have that much stuff to grade.right now im in a graphic design class and i really like it. alot. like the class is 3 hours long every thursday and normally i would not be able to handle something for three straight hours. but i totally enjoy this.



thursday our menu projects were due. we had to create a resturant and come up with the concept and a logo and a menu.



im real proud of myself.
i think they look pretty sharp.

cancellation.

in my english class this week we are having "online sessions." which means we dont go to class. instead our professor will post work online and we print out the worksheets and bring them to class next week.

i think this is a waste. its total busy work. i thought that would end when i left high school. guess not.

and my history class is canceled once this week. meaning wednesday i dont have school. i want to do something exciting. like go to the beach. or disneyland. or mexico for tacos.
meh. probably not going to happen.

harry potter carved into a pumpkin! are you kidding me?
after halloween i want to go to the pumpkin patch (because i assume they will be on sale?) and get a bunch of pumpkins and to some serious art.

random awesome weekend. and its not over yet.

friday night about thirty college students gathered to celebrate two births at bj's brewhouse, a chicago style pizzeria.

i made a card. because im creative. no actually because im cheap, and i have alot of free time.
the front said, "what does a clam do for his birthday?"

i only knew about 5 of the thirty people. my friends eric and corrine. it was fun. and the food was delicious. and i enjoyed the night. some awkward moments, but thats expected.


and who can resist a pizookie?

saturday night started off with church. NICK VUJICIC is freaking amazing. for reals. i dont know how to explain it. i kinda want to see him again, he will be in california the next few weekends.


so after that awesomeness abby, holly, jillian, levi, and monica came over to my house. for an awesome dinner and some awesome games. we played an awesome game of spoons. this awesome game called Sentence To Draw(S). and the night ended with some awesome pumpkin cheesecake.
