blog about my lack of blogs.

i love blogging. but lately i have been slacking. liz told me i needed to blog. so here it goes.

i used to go through life thinking "oh this would make a perfect blog" and then i would get home and type it out. maybe include a picture or two. add a few links and call it a day.

and now i just don't have those thoughts. if something particularly noteworthy happens throughout the day i will just twitter about it. and then i get home and look at my blog and know that i want to post something but then i just don't have anything new to share. especially considering the fact that most of you who read this also follow me on twitter.

so i am going to try to recap the summer so far:
movies, quelf, friends, jr high, adventures, watchers, sleep-overs, bbqs, beach, disneyland, secrets, parties, nocturnal, art, music, family, nail polish, building, cleaning, change, catching up, guitar hero, how i met your mother, gossip girl, up!, derassi, say yes to the dress, lemonade, sunshine, wii, good byes, isp send offs, los angeles, and new friends.

things i am looking forward to:
chicago for my birthday!
summer camp!

country and lots of blogs.

this is a screenshot of my google reader right now.

i have so many unread blogs that i need to catch up on right now.

the past few weeks i really haven't had time to just sit down and read the hundreds of blogs im subscribed to.

except for the blogs in my friends folder, i always keep up on those.

so now i guess ill get started on these.

side note.
i hate country music. one of the main things we argued about in louisiana was music choice. it just annoys me.

but then last week jackie went and bought taylor swift's new album. and we listened to it. and i really like it. i don't know that i really accept the country style of it, but i really really like her lyrics. when im listening i just want to be her friend. she seems like such a cool girl. and i just want to hang out with her.

so i don't know if i should give any other country artists a chance now.
is there anyone out there worth my time?

oh the world we live in.

earlier today liiiz gave me a hard time about not blogging as much as i used to, so all day long i have been thinking about what i should blog about.

and then i remembered this:
oh facebook and the world we live in.
when i had a fb notification that diane smith had commented greg's status i knew i was busted.

and that is a picture from this weekend's trip to disneyland. there we are spelling out YMCA on the tower of terror.

pictures galore.

So today i plugged my cell phone into my computer and i figured i would blog about all the random pictures i had on my cell phone. that first one is a package of pickles. i thought it was weird. like picture a lunch pack size of apple sauce, pudding, or fruit cocktail. but fill it with pickles.

prepare yourself for the next one, its a little graphic.
that is what my room looked like last week for a few days. it was really really messy. it is clean now. and someday i want to do like a video tour of my cottage, because those are always fun.

that's jackie. she is holding the sweet baby jesus that was part of the nativity scene on the mohn's lawn. she brought him into the house and then found out it was like made by some famous artist and is pretty valuable. sweet baby jesus in your golden diapers.

this is what i drew last week in art class, it's not finished yet.
a while ago wile i was at barnes and nobel i saw this book.
it has the same cover as twilight. weird.

and this is my new favorite application.PolaDroid project. its really easy to use. you just drop on image into the camera. it snaps photo and then you have to wait a few moments for it to develope. and then you have a polaroid looking image.

justine, corinne, me, and molly before our fancy girl dinner.

justine and kristin at justine's 20th birthday party, it was jonas brothers themed.

i made a bunch of polorids last night. lots of fun. and again, the link is here for that sweet application.

how they reel you in.

i love making lists.
i love going on amazon and seeing what they recommend i buy based on my purchases and stuff.
and then i add the books to a wish list.
i have some extensive wish lists. all organized and whatnot.
everything is so personalized, "daily recommendations for you" or "more music from your previously purchased artists"
and you know, whatever system they have totally works. becuase everything the reccomend it totally up my alley, usually.

so my newest favorite list making site is ebay. i recentally became a big fan of "watching" auctions.
curranally i am watching 53. i like watching things. im not comitting to anything. i can just take a passive seat back (is that a real phrase) and watch the progress of some shoes, makep, jewlery, purses, books, movie, random trinkets, art....

i am verry unfocused in my ebay watching, but thats part of the fun.

so this is my ebay purse that i got last week for like 3dollarsyeah for photobooth's bad quality but super duper convienence.

happy one year anniversary!

to me and blogger!

october 15, 2007 i posted my first blog and there was no looking back.

i decided i would celebrate by sharing some of my google analytic statistics with yall.
this is a screen shot of all the countries that have visited my blog, i think its pretty cool.
33.65% of the visits to my blog came from apple computers.
42 people came across my blog searching for rice crispy treats cereal
my most viewed blog was the one about my trip to the tattoo expo

well im going to take this time to say thank you. to blogger, for sticking with me trough the hard times and the good times. there were days , even weeks when i neglected you. but then whenever i came back to you there you were with open arms.

and thank you to my blogging friends!

i love genius.

seriously, if you haven't downloaded the new itunes yet, do it.
i love the genius playlists!

so abby and holly asked about the specific changes to the caf.
the main thing is they took the bar of cereal and milk and ice cream and moved it out by where the other soda machines are.

this is what my comment card said:

  • "I think the changes to the cereal bar are good, but the new open space should be better utilized [right now they just have a bunch of fruit trays and yogurt]
  • expand the sandwich bar to include different varieties of bread
  • bring back daily guacamole
  • when students ask for their salads/wraps/sandwiches to be customized the employees should comply with a positive attitude
  • when studednts get a to go box the meal should be prepared for that box, students should not be expected to dump a salad from a plate into their box
  • bring back individual bags of chips, including the baked variety
  • make jello without the whipped cream on top
  • good job with sourdough bread, croissants, and cheesy bread
  • more selection on chicken strip thursday nights
  • get a panini maker that is is always out for students to use
  • go back to self serve sushi for sunday brunch
  • the pumpkin cookies are delicious
  • good job on labeling the desserts
  • bring back asparagus
  • good job with rearranging the tables
those are my demands.
have ou filled out a comment car yet?

im all moved in.

so after a full day of room cleaning, target shopping, spray painting, laundry washing, and packing i have moved into my new home at cbu.

and thanks to my dad and brother, we only had to make 2 trips.

and i unpacked all my clothes. and i really should be putting stuff away, but the screen on my ihome isn't working. and i got on my computer to try and set it up but i can't figure out how to fix it.

and then i got distracted.

and i wanted to post a blog about how freaking excited i am to be back here at school.

and then i was really cold so i texted corinne who wasa outside and i said "im cold"
she said "come outside"
and i said "ok"

and then i went outside and shut the door behind me.
but....
she didn't have her id card and i just locked us out.

so after some bargaining i had to go call the ra on duty and wake her up so that she could unlock the door.
now everyone hates me.

pokemon snap.

yah thats right.
this is what im doing on my summer vacation.tonight after some frustrations while playing cars "tractor tipping" on the xbox360 heather jacob and i decided to get out the old n64. anyone remember this game? your a funny looking red haired kid taking pictures of all the pokemon you see on your journey. classic. i unlocked the pester balls and apples and decided it was time for bed.
but first:
isn't this the cutest pokemon? if you think pikachu is, then i have one word for you: bandwagon.

tangent

THIS IS A MAJOR TANGENT FROM MY LAST BLOG SO I DECIDED TO MAKE A WHOLE NEW POST. and i just realized that that was in caps lock.
becuase i do not type correctly. i look at the key board while i type. when i had computers in 7th grade we had to play typing games and i cheated.

so this is where it started....
well actually i can always get away with lying on the internet. its kinda a new hobby of mine. like i really find joy in posting bogus status updates and stuff. i think people take myspace/facebook wayyyy to seriously. (and i know this might sound hypocritical coming from me, but im pretty over the whole thing.) like if you really care to know whats going on in someone's life you should ask. oh but wait, you cant ask people how they are doing because thats just a casual greeting. "hi how are you" "good how are you" is the normal exchange these days. and people really dont care what your answer is. i usually respond with "fine." and people ask "aw why fine?" like its just so unexpected to hear that.
i really hate whats happening. because when i ask my friends how they are doing or how their day was i really care about the answer. and it hurts when i get one word back.

another thing that stinks about our normal conversations is how often people say "i love you" why do we only have one word for love?
i love chipotle.
i love my family.
i love game show network.
i love God.
i love to blog.
i love water.
i love music.
i love making lists.

we should have more words.

im behind on blogging.

awkward google.

eric brought this to my attention.

so when you google "rachel weinstein" this is what you see...

"It's rachel. are you having sex with your boyfriend?" on that note... sex. ... weinstein in the house. My Photo. raychill: i have goals. ..."

that is so awkward! and so not the kind of first internet impression i want to give. so the solution to this problem is to put my name, rachel weinstein, into more posts.

happy saint patricks day! enjoy!

my school is so werid.

today in my graphic design class we spent the entire hour photo-shopping an old man's wrinkles away. i have this problem where i am easily distracted and easily entertained. so after i was done de-wrinkling i covered up peoples eyes with skin. (this one was quick, just to illustrate a point, the others were better). (well as better as skin for eyes can be).

and then in my youth ministry class tony steward talked about social media. it was sweet. i love wikipedia even more than the next person so the info was right up my alley.
stuff i enjoyed:

  1. wikipedia is written by millions of people who have a specific area of expertise while encyclopedias are written by ten really smart people.
  2. facebook is a mall (you have stores you shouldn't go into and some books you shouldnt read. there is a limited amount of mischief going on because there is mall security to break it up but for the most part you see happy families with children in strollers).
  3. myspace is a red light district. prostitutes are constantly soliciting you and asking you for sex and money. the advertisements are not g-rated at all.
  4. ask a ninja is the most watched podcast. and no one in my class had heard of it. im like the only nerd in there.
  5. rss stands for really simple syndication. who knew?

27 dresses.

so turned in my application for ra. and this is something i really want to do. alot.
its seriously not even about the free housing (which would be nice) or the single room (which would be nice). its about getting to work with girls and build relationships and build community and the more i think about it the more love cbu. and i feel like i could do a good job of encouraging my residents to be the people God wants them to be. sadly though 150 applications were turned in for only 60ish spots. and a lot of great people applied. so if i dont get it i will be bummed but i know that there was someone better for the job and its just not the right time.
i had my interview on friday. and it was silly. overall i think i did a good job. i had fun, laughed a lot, cried a little. ended it off with a display of my coolest talent. i can stick my finger pretty far into my eyeball socket.
and then this morning form 8:30- 12 all the ra applicants had to go thorough a three part group interview process day thing. it was a lot of fun. we were split into nine groups and my group (pink2!) was awesome. some super nice people. we are pretty much all friends now and im excited to see them around campus!
after lunch and bible study i took a nap. it was so nice.

about five thirty chelsea jumped on top of me and woke me up.
:]
randomly chelsA called me monday and asked if i wanted to hang out with her. and i did. so we did.

we started out the night with panera and some great conversation. catching up is fun, there is always so much to talk about. and lots of laughing. we saw 27 dresses. so cute. nice chick flick. happy ending. love story. lots of laughs. see it if your into that sort of think. don't if your not.
coffee depot and back to the cottage for some more laughing, myspace stalking, and match.com applying. haha.
so after finishing my match.com profile we decided not to submit it. so sadly if my soul mate (whatever that means) is on that site i may never find him. but seriously the questions they as are super funny. so if you're ever bored and in the mood for a good laugh...
random fact:chelsea is compeating in the miss riverside pageant. im excited for her. she has to study the history and through her research (wikipedia) she learned that maeby from arrested development is totally from riverside.

thanks mlk jr.

thanks to the awesomeness that is martin luther king junior i had a awesome four day weekend (four-day because i never have school on fridays).

friday- i joined cindy, holly, and monica at pf changs. we feasted on yummy food (crispy honey shrimp is my fave) and had a great time. i love that place. riverside has really stepped it up restaurant wise. later that night kristin and i went to the movies. we saw atonement. it was pretty good. a nice mix of artsy stuff, history, mystery, suspense. the film moves super slow at times, but besides that and the glamorization of smoking it was two thumbs up. and im really a fan of the green dress kiera wore. its so glamorous. good movie. i would recommend it.

saturday- i slept way way in. and then cindy janai and i went to java bliss to get our study on. but they closed at 7 so we had to bounce over to my house for great conversations, homework, and guitar hero.

sunday- church at the grove. i went to "big church" and i think im learning i have the attention span of a junior higher. the service highlighted some of the trips that the church went on this past year, and educatated the members about the importance of going to the ends of the earth.

the past year and a half has been awesome in regards to my mission opportuinities. i got to go to mexico, chile, utah, and cambodia. but i really dont know what the Lord has in store for me this summer. Back to cambodia? hatti? utah? costa rica? tibet? job? summer camp? san fransisco? i just dont know...

after brunch janai and i watched a good ten hours of prison break season 2. it was intense. great show.

we went to sandals at 7. and i really dont know what to say.
ok i will say that sometimes all the "stuff" gets in the way of worship. and i know its not about whether or not i like the particular song we are singing... but whether or not it is pleasing to Gods ears. but for me smacking a beach ball around during the singing of Queen's "we will rock you" was pretty distracting from the reason i sing.

we came back form sandals and watched more prison break.
i fell asleep to this...

monday- kristin woke me up in time for lunch. following a 2 1/2 caf expierence we had a mlk photo shoot.

then some more prison break. we plowed through most of season two. we only have 2 episodes left! seriously and amazing show. i can not wait for season three to come out on dvd. (i cant watch it on real time tv because every single commercial break is a clif hanger and im too impatient to wait a whole week for a new episode...so i just wait months and watch it all in one foul swoop)(i know. fell swoop, but i have been saying fowl for years)

then i went to jonnie mac and drew's apartment. we played guitar hero.

i cleaned my room. did laundry. read some. painted my nails (gold sparkley). ate a few lemon heads. thanks for staying with me through this lonnnng blog. i think this is my longest yet. or maybe i just put some big pictures up in here to deceive you.
:]

Taking out the trash (tv).

i confess. watching garbage on tv is one of my vices.

My tv is almost always on mtv. and i watch whatever trash they feed me. but this semester i am trying something new: if i have homework or reading to do im not going to turn the tv on.

all this week i hadnt watched anything until what not to wear last night.

ok. thats a lie. i did watch the office with mon and holly. and degrassi with julia and kristin. but besides that nothing.

in other news: i am completely addicted to jetman. serously all you facebookers need to add it.
or maybe you shouldn't.

i stalk people.

and when i stop and think about what i do it sounds creepy.
when i get my school schedule i try to figure out who my teachers are. and not just who they are in class... but who they are on myspace. and facebook. and blogger. i check their ratemyprofessor.com ratings, and then i run some google searches.

thats creepy right?
but, as i have found, the internet is definitely a public access thing. so its my right to know.

the reason im posing this now is that for a while my "current trends in youth ministry" class did not have a teacher. and now it does. and he has a blog. and i found it. and i almost left him a comment.

but i didnt. because i dont want him to lurk my blog and judge me.
considering my last two posts were about going to a tattoo expo and really enjoying the alvin and the chipmunks movie i figure im sending off a weird first impression.

sleeping schedule.

i am really terrible at sleeping.
it is almost impossible for me to keep a routine when it comes to my sleeping.

lets recap.
wednesday i woke up at about 3:30pm
thursday morning i went to bed at 5am
thursdy afternoon i woke up around 1 pm
thursday night i fell asleep on the couch at 11:30pm
i woke up about 3am and move into the bedroom to try to fall asleep. now i find myself on the internet an hour later.

so to fall asleep i need 2 things: noise and a horizontal position.
the horizontal position can be almost anywhere: couch, bed, car seat that is reclined, the floor...
the noise is usually the tv or my ipod.

on my ipod i listen to podcasts. i listen to about 1 and 1/2 church sermons a night. the next night i re-listen to the one a fell asleep to the previous night.
podcasts i am subscribed to:

  1. cal baptist chapel- we normally have good chapel speakers and i listen to all the services i miss. (listen to dr david platt series, and francis chan)
  2. cornerstone simi- i love francis chan. this is his church. the grace series is good. but basically all the series are good.
  3. the grove- sometimes i wake up early and go to the 9 service but for the times that i just go to the junior high service at 10:45 i will podcast the sermons. so i can stay connected to the church community. i also have all of travis's stuff saved. because i love that guy.
  4. living truth:examining the mormon church- i subscribed to this podcast in preparation for my trip to utah last year.
  5. mars hill bible church- rob bell. nuff said.
  6. the porch church- a while back i downloaded all the old sermons from the porch (rip). i have been working my way through those teachings.
  7. the rock church- a church in utah. tagline "for people interested in god, but not religion.
  8. rock harbor- after reading "jesus of seburbia" i subscribed to mike erre's church.
  9. sandals- they always have really interesting and relevant series. i go to the 7pm service about 40% percent of my sundays. and then i podcst the ones i miss.
  10. the stirring- once dan announced his departure i subscribed to the stirring. i wanted to make sure he wasnt joining a cult. this church comunity checks out, they are pretty solid
so there you have it. that is how i fall asleep each night. right now i have 108 new podcasts.
but im always looking for new stuff to listen to.

so does anyone have anything i should add to my list?

Thursday, November 29, 2007

im high tech. i can post from my cell phone.

so i took this photo of some lovely ladies at dinner time.
with my cell phone camera.
then i sent the picture to blogger through a text message. im so high tech.

janai really needs to start a blog.
and jillian you should make your boyfriends start some too.
abby wins because she has already converted some people.

im telling you, by the end of the year lots of people will be bloggin'
