all i wanted to do was read.

so tonight i had the urge to read a roald dalh book.

this is what you need to know going into this story: my mom is middle school library media teacher.a really awesome one at that.
we have book shelves in pretty much every room in our house except the bathrooms.
(but you will still find books in there)

i was on a mission to find any of our old books by him.
the one i really wanted to read was The Witches.
second on my list was the one about the boy who drugs the pheasants by putting sleeping pills in raisins. i couldn't remember the name of the book (it's Danny, Champion of the World).
And i would have been completely satisfied with The Twits, The BFG, Matilda, or fantastic mr fox.

so i began the search. i started on the book shelves in the hallway by may parents room. wasnt there. move one to the small bedroom shelves, and closet, checked in the living room, jacobs room, and my room.
nothing.

i did see plenty of beverly clearys, mrs tiggywinkle, comic books, judy blume, harry potter, box car children, amber brown, cs lewis, tolkien, and a bunch of classic children's novels.
but no dalh.
and that's all i wanted.
I was not interested in all these other books that had brought me hours of enjoyment and entertainment in my childhood. all i wanted was Dolh.
at this point i was becoming desperate.
I would have settled for charlie and the chocolate factory or james and the giant peach. even the giraffe and the pelly and me would have done.

but these books were no where to be found.
i looked on all the shelves for a second time. they had to be there! but alas, i count not locate them.

so i had to give up. and i really hate giving up.
if i think that i might not succeed usually i just avoid the task all together (not a good strategy)
but at this point i has tried really hard to find a book, so it was hard to admit defeat.

i did find another book i have been wanting to reread.
coraline. the movie will be released on feburary 9th and you better believe i am going to see it in theaters. its a stop motion animation move. and there is music from they might be giants.
seriously.

my mom got me a copy of the book five years ago and its totaly signed by the author, neil gaiman.

so now i am going to read that book, and tomorrow i will ask my mom if she knows where any of the Roald Dahl books are.

i guess i am honest.

friday night we had our jr high leader christmas party.
its always fun to hang out wiht the other leaders, becuase even though i see everyone pretty much twice a week, we are always around a million 12-14 year olds.

so we had an awards ceremony. some serious awards, some joke awards, and some very awkward awards. and i mean awkward.

i got "the most honest award"
so if you need an honest opinion i will tell you mine, and i wont sugar coat it, basically.
i think that's a god thing?

also this weekend i started to embroider.
i looked up a few different stitches and made this little tree. it was fun. kinda took a while.
i think next time i wil use a pattern instead of free handing.
so there it is: my tree and my award.

missing out on the normal college experience.

so im not going to lie, sometimes i really wish i went to a big public school.
but i know my reasons are stupid:

  1. i really like the idea of joining a sorority. becuase girls in sororities get all kinds of tee shirts and sweatshirts. they go on cool trips. they have formals.
  2. i wish we had a football team.
  3. theme parties. i want to go to a superhero party, or a cow boys and girls party, a 80s party.
but thats pretty much it. my list of reasons why i should be at a small private school is wayy longer. and way more meaningful.

and hey... we did have a toga party here for valentines day.oh cbu.

awkward google.

eric brought this to my attention.

so when you google "rachel weinstein" this is what you see...

"It's rachel. are you having sex with your boyfriend?" on that note... sex. ... weinstein in the house. My Photo. raychill: i have goals. ..."

that is so awkward! and so not the kind of first internet impression i want to give. so the solution to this problem is to put my name, rachel weinstein, into more posts.

happy saint patricks day! enjoy!

weekend update.

4:00, friday was the start of an excellent weekend.
team ootah got together for night filled with talking, christmas light looking, std-ing, and catch phrase-ing.

i went back to the mission inn. for the third time this season.

i think this is an awkward picture. but it makes me laugh.
seriously. we hung out for eight hours and were laughing most of the time.
the only negative thing about that night was that the women were dominated at catch phrase.

then saturday night i had a hannakuh party at my house. the nice thing about not living at home is i get to invite people over, but i dont have to help out with the preparation, or the cleaning afterward.
:]
(just kidding mom, i totally would have helped if i knew you needed me.)

but it was pretty cool. my mom made a good dinner. and we played games.
good times.
again, alot of laughing. mostly due to my favorite game in the world, quelf. janai and i did alright as queen spatula. but we didnt win.

"one syllable words that start with 'W'"
mrs pickle feather- "water"

a quick shout out to cindy and julia who won as the Super Ninja Monkey. they had to constantly sit on their hands while always holding something in their left hand while acting as the bartenders for everyone else. that takes skill.

christmas shopping.

i am all done with my shopping.
amazon.com made it pretty easy.
one click shopping.
free shipping.
if you are a member of my immediate family you can expect a gift from me.

sadly, if you are anyone but my immediate family you are not getting jack. you are not getting jill either.

which moves me to my next point.
please don't get me anything. i have enough stuff already. i don't need anything more. if in your head your thinking, "but rachel you are so cool. and awesome. and pretty. i just must get you something."
...just resist the urge. don't.

if you already got me something take it back and donate the money to some charity. or give the gift to someone who needs it more.

seriously, please don't get me anything. lets just prevent any awkward moments now.

halloween

i carved a pirate jack o lantern. i totally used a stencil. i was considering lying and saying i came up with the design all on my own, but the stencil is totally in the picture so i couldn't really get away with that.

on halloween i helped out with trunk n' treat. kids are cute. but parents are kind of silly
its dumb when parents take their newborn trick or treating. how can a baby who dosent have teeth eat candy? they cant. the moms are going to eat it all.

oh and the highlight of my night was getting yelled at. we were told to only give candy to kids under 12. so when somone who looked older came to our trunk we would ask them how old they were. several kids admitted to being 13+ (one even admitted to bing 17 1/2) so we would tell them to go play the games and stuff. then some crazy mom on a power trip came to our trunk and said "you told my daughter she couldn't have candy, you were wrong. i talked to the head pastor and he siad there was no age limit. bla bla bla."
sorry. i was just doing what i was told to do.

i kinda don't really like the idea of trunk or treat. not because i think its a satanic holiday or anything. i don't understand why every church in riverside needs to have a carnival. i wonder how much money churches spent this year on halloween.
i was a jock. i got 2 comments on my costume.

  1. "what year did you graduate?" "06" "i graduated in from poly in 85"
  2. "dang, was there anything you didn't win" (yah, i was a stud back in the day)
and my dad was a parking cone. he takes his parking ministry at the grove pretty seriously.
