when you grow up

in third grade i had to do an oral report on what i wanted to be when i grew up.

and i did my project on the ancient art of painting your nails.
i wanted to be a nail technician.
i researched the history of paining your nails. i interviewed a girl who worked at a nail salon.
for my visual aid i got a bunch of fake nails and painted different designs on them.

this was serious business.

now when people ask me what i want to be when i grow up i really don't know what to answer.

You see flowers in these weeds.

this is a project that i am working on right now.
the assignment was to create a "statement of faith."
so this is what i came up with.
used one of my favorite all time songs, dandelions, by five iron frenzy.
basically God sees us a beautiful flowers even though we are weeds.
just like dandelions.
unconditional love.
seriously, how can he see us as anything but the wretched sinful weeds that we are? it blows my mind.
like the gifts we bring him and the way we try to worship how can it even compare to what he has done for us? but even though what we bring to the table looks like nothing we are still treasured.

well, its almost 5 in the morning. i had a fantastic day. now i need some sleep.

woo.

so i work in the graphic design computer lab.

its fun. i just get to sit there and work on projects and help other students who come in to use the lab.

but this week  the four of us who work in there were given a new task to accomplish.
we are making fire escape routes for every classroom on campus.
we have to draw up the building and room and then add a nice dotted line to show the most efficient way to exit a building in the case of emergency.

its kinda tedious work. but i like it.
the thing is they didn't tell us what the most efficient way to get out would be. so we get to figure it out on our own.
im nervous that i will draw the dotted line the wrong way and then someone might get hurt in a fire because i thought it would be better to use one set of stairs as opposed to a different exit.

so tonight i went to cbu's first annual woo fest.
basically an all male talent show providing the men on campus an opportuinity to woo the ladies.
it was so entertaining.

happy valentines day.

so live it out.

alisha just posted some louisiana pictures to facebook, and looking at them got me thinking about one of the families we stayed with in la.
the voelkels.
the boys lived at their house for two weeks. the first week they were there the voelkels were out of town on a family vacation with all of their kids and grandchildren.

they trusted 5 college kids with their amazing property.
thats a picture of ben and alisha riding around their lake.
they really understood that God had blessed them with everything so that they could bless others.
check out this gorgeous sunset.
like people always talk about "blessed to be a blessing" but this family lived it out.
i pray that i can remember how they lived and how they treated us when i grow up.

and pam and norman voelkel... if you ever somehow read this... (i dont know, maybe if you google your names) thank you so much for everything! seriously, you guys are amazing.
