just kidding.

i changed a few of the classes i was taking.

this is my updated schedule... not that anyone cares. well except for those two anonymous people who left comments asking me to look at their hot new pics on my last blog... (i need to change my commenting settings)

m/w/f 10-11 advanced art
m/w/f 11-12 the history of modern america
mon 2-5 advanced typography
wed 2-5 drawing:perspective
tues/thurs 2- 3:20 color, theory and application
online- web design, html and css

i have to take alternative chapel. which means i have to listen to the chapel podcasts and take an online quiz because my classes conflict with the chapel times.

i decided i should at least take one general ed class, that way next semester i will have a more balanced schedule of design/art/gen ed classes.

one of those weeks.

i don't know what it is but december has been hard.

today i had to do some photo retouching in one of my classes and im using a picture that i took in louisiana.
im really missing that period in my life. it was hard. but i just grew so much and learned so much about myself.

why do i get all nostalgic like this?
i just thought i spelled nostalgic incorrectly so i looked it up.
yep... nostalgic is fo sho how i am feeling.

–noun
1.a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life, to one's home or homeland, or to one's family and friends; a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time: a nostalgia for his college days.
2.something that elicits or displays nostalgia.

in other news... my hands still have some gorilla glue on them. it has been three days. the napkin bits are mostly gone but my hands look all dry and peely but also shiny. and i can't snap.

glue.

yesterday i was scolded for neglecting my blog.

tonight i was working on my stupid model gallery project. i felt like i was in fourth grade building a model of a mission or something. only this time i didn't have my dad to help and give me guidance.

first i had to go to walmart (ew) (but thanks for taking me jackie!) because target was closed.

so i got home and measured and drew up the blue prints on the foam core. and then it was time to cut. i got all the walls and stuff cut out and i was ready to glue.

while gluing everything together i got a little gorilla glue on my hands. i tried washing them with soap and water. that only seemed to make everything worse. corinne suggested trying nail polish remover. that didn't remove the glue... instead pieces of the cotton ball that i was using to wipe it off just got stuck to my hand.

i ended up soaking my hands in hot soapy water and scrubbing with some exfoliating face wash for about 20 minutes. now my skin just feels rough and weird.

peeing in class.

ok, first of all i know "peeing" isn't the most ladylike term. i should say "using the restroom" or something like that. but i'm lazy.

although, explaining that probably took just as long. if not longer.

well.
i have a problem. i am totally not comfortable with leaving in the middle of a class to use the bathroom. there are a few reasons for this.

-i feel like its awkward to stand up in the middle of class and walk out
-its equally, if not more, awkward to ask for permission to leave
-i think it's kinda rude to leave while the professor is lecturing
-what if i miss something important while i am out of class
-what if i get back to class and the professor opens it up for discussion, then i will have no idea about what has already been covered
(side note: a pet peeve of mine is when people ask questions about things that have clearly been covered... just pay attention... you are wasting everyone's time)
-what if there is a line when i get to the bathroom? and then i have to wait? and then i get back and everyone wonders what i did in there... so awkward!
-

basically i just can't do it.
today in my christian social ethics class i had to go. i had to go bad.
it was 2:30. that three hour class goes till 5. the first week of school my classmates decided that instead of taking our allotted break halfway through the class we would rather get out of class 10 minutes early.

so it is 2:30 and i have to "hold it" till 4:30 at best.
around 3:30 im freaking out. i am probably majorly doing the potty dance in my seat. i am thinking that maybe i will have to break my streak of never peeing during a class and just excuse myself.

oh but i can't do that. if it was just a normal day maybe i would... but no. it is not a normal day, my professor's mentor came to talk to us. this is the man that inspired dr stumpf to teach. i can't just get up and leave in the middle of his lecture.

at 4 he has us break into groups to discuss something. and i think that maybe now is my chance. but just as i get up the courage to go he starts lecturing again.

i feel like i might pass out. i start picking away at my nail polish to take my mind off it. i don't know if i can make it. but now it's 4:15, wayyyy to late to get up and go. what if i leave and then class ends while im gone. and i have to come back to an empty class room. or what if all the students are gone but my professor stayed to make sure i was ok. maybe at that point i just wouldn't go back for my stuff.

finally the end is in sight. it's that point in class when it is acceptable to begin slowly packing up your stuff. i get everything together and put my backpack on. i can't sit still. the pain is so bad. i am planning on running to the bathroom, i have plotted my route in my mind.

class dismissed. i sprint to the bathroom. relief.

gallery methods.

my favorite class this semester is gallery methods.
the 8 of us in the class are responsible for maintaining our on campus gallery. so far i have learned how to hang art, i have filled tons of nail holes, and i have painted a few walls.

the other thing my class does is put together the student art competition. we were supposed to put a poster together for the comp. and this is what kelly and i came up with.

twirp.

a few weeks ago was twirp (the woman is required to pay) week at cbu. it's basically a whole week of sadie hawkins things to do. girls get pretty creative when asking the guys out to the different events.

jillian and i decided to twirp our friends sam and andrew. we made a whole picture puzzle scavenger hunt for them and with the help of our roommates and a lot of hours being creative together we pulled it off.
we took the guys to knotts scary farm. and scary it was. none of us had been before so we weren't quite sure what we were getting ourselves into.

at first i was terrified. and i just didn't want to be there. but by the end of the night it was kinda the same thing over and over again. so the monsters popping out of the fog and chasing us down the streets didn't phase me anymore.

grandpa

last sunday i got the phone call that my grandpa had passed away. his funeral was thursday and while it was hard but it was so encouraging to know that he was a believer and i know that he is in heaven right now.

"a quiet man of integrity, Bill will be remembered for his sometimes unique approach to problem solving"

so true. one of my favorite memories of grandpa would be when jacob was climbing a tree and ripped his shorts. so grandpa used a hot glue gun to fix his shorts.

sorry for the lack of blogs.

hmm. this photo booth pic does not look good.

it was brought to my attention (by jillian) that it had been almost a month since i had blogged.

i am back at cbu. i am so glad to be back. i just love living so close to all my friends and just having the community around me.

in other news i am the design editor for the banner. despite having no experience with InDesign i was able to get the job, and i have been learning so much and putting in a lot of hours. im really thankful to have this opportunity.
so go pick up a banner and tell me what you think.

ill update more i promise. but really its hard to keep the blog alive when i am constantly twittering.

oregon.

I always seem to have random adventures with alisha.
We left riverside wednesday, our plan was simple:
1. wednesday- go to redding california to drop heather off at simpson
2. thursday- drive through oregon and stop in vancouver washington at courtney's house
3. friday- go to alisha's school in kirkland and move her in and then spend the day in seattle

but that is not what happened.

her car broke down in southern oregon. we were stopped on the side of the i-5. we got towed. we were waiting for the tow truck to get to us and decided to be productive and paint our nails.
got a room at the seven feathers casino in canyonville oregon. population: 1400. we were pretty much the onlyt ones at the hotel who didn't qualify for a senior discount.
here's leesh at dinenr surrounded by old ladies.
after dinner we went into town to check out the pioneer days... canyonville's celebration of oregon's 150th birthday. it was cute. we swear by this point the whole town knew there were two girls there from california whose car had broke down in their town.

we were both tired from the day and we went to bed early. thursday morn the car was ready to go so we were on our way to vancouver washington to court's house. we made it and then went back down to portland for the evening.

made a stop at voodoo doughnuts. i had a maple bacon bar
delish. i really love cities, and portland was no exception. it seemed so clean and i love all the trees surrounding it. after that we went to a bible study.

tomorrow we leave for alisha's school. we are moving her into the dorms and then going into seattle to explore.

we have met so many weird/random/interesting people on our trip so far... and im not going home till wednesday, so only God knows what elese is in store for us.

The office.

AHHHHHHH!
ok. today heather, edgar and I decided to go into la to find a random adventure. on the way there we were looking on the iphone for "top FREE things to do in la and that sort of thing

We found the address for the exterior filming of the Scranton Business park and the Dunder Miffilin parking lot so we decided to go.

we pulled up and there's Andy (david wallace) standing outside talking to some fans from texas. he was so nice and he remembered our names and introduced us to some sound people who came over to tell him that he was going to start filming. Andy told us we could watch his scene with John (jim) from the parking lot. so we waited.

and we saw them film but i honestly have no idea what happened in the scene except for a serious conversation between jim and david wallace that ended with jim walking away.

but then we waited by the exit and oscar drove up to the gate, parked his car, and got out to take a picture with us.

and then the same thing happened with Kate (Meridith)
we waited a few more minutes and saw John Krasinski getting into his car. and we were excited. and then he drove off the lot and waved and we thought he wasn't going to stop. but he totally did. basically parked his car in the street and took a picture with us.

apparently people just started coming two weeks ago, before this season they didn't even have security guards or anything. so if you want to take a trip to scranton i suggest doing it before they get too swamped with fans.

tadpoleing and marshmallow feet.

i don't know what it is.
but i just do not feel like writing sentences and paragraphs and stuff.
so i just upload videos.
i think it might be that i have been on summer break for 3 months now.
im entering the last month of break.
here we go august. let's make this a good month.

please enjoy this video of alisha, ellise, and cayla hanging out at the canyon crest town center tadpoling in the little stream.
seriously. i love summer and the random things that happen.

and here is another video.
this is a game we played at jr high youth group.
i feel like someone should make some sort of fear factor/amazing race/wipeout for 12-14 year olds. i know it would be entertaining.

seriously.

summer camp.

Last week i went to jr high summer camp at thousand pines.

i had a blast. i learned so much. and my team won the recreation competition. (go stealth strikers!)
i had 11 crazy girls in my yurt. (a yurt is dome shaped tent thing. think parent trap.)

please enjoy this video of my girls beating each other up.

chicago.

last week i spent my 21st birthday in chicago.
i had an amazing time.
i really love big cities. i love taking public transportation. i love being surrounded by thousands of people i do not know. i love talking to strangers.
i got to stay with my friend emily, she goes to school at loyola university. i really liked all her friends. we hung out with her rugby team a few nights. they are crazy. i feel like they would have all played water polo if they lived in so cal.

i have been out of state for my past three birthdays.
19- cambodia
20- louisiana
21- chicago
where will i be on my 22nd?

blaaaaaaaaaah.

ok. i just got back from the longest day at disneyland ever.

it was a really fun day untill the 14th hour when i got cranky.
please enjoy a video of my lil cousin sammy breaking it down to one of the street bands.
i'm not quite sure what to call his unique form of irish jig/hip hop. but it makes me laugh.
so tonight we watched fantasmic. its a water/fireworks/video/multimedia experience all about the power of imagination.
and probably every-time i watch it i get goose bumps.
and i really have so much i want to say right now but im going to journal it instead. (thanks jillian for the journal, btw).

so i originally thought this was going to be a long blog but im going to cut it short and write my thoughts privately now.

digital organization.

i really like keeping my desktop in order.
i like making folders to keep everything in.

the only problem is sometimes i weave such a complicated web of folders and extensions that things get filed away forever.

until i go looking for something and come across these hidden folders again.
this picture was taking at lunch one day. it was one of those lunches where you just stay in the caf and hang out with like 40 different people and just drink a slurpee and then start playing games and being destructive.
look at that magic spoon!

i have no idea where i grabbed this illustration from. but i saved it because i really liked the style and everything. the balloon reminds me... if you haven't seen Up! yet get on that!!! i loved it.
and...
bears. raccoons. vampires. lincoln. zombies. kittens. robots vhs tapes.
obviously.

'bums.

as in ALbums.
i like it when abbrevs kinda don't really work.

i have talked about this before but if some unknown person some how stumbled upon my itunes library they would probably be confused as to what kinda person i am. i have so much random music. and usually listen to it on shuffle. or i create a genius playlist. or i listen to one of the many playlists i have created. but lately i have been keeping the family together as the artists intended. there are some albums that just have good flow. that need to be heard in order. that are best kept in a set.
i mean no one wants to break up the band.

some (al)bums i recommend you listen to in their entirety.

manchester orchestra, mean everything to nothing
kanye west, 808s and heartbreak

midlake, the trials of van occupantherphosphorescent, to willie
and mewithoutyou, it's all crazy! it's all false! it's all a dream! it's alright.
yes.

blog about my lack of blogs.

i love blogging. but lately i have been slacking. liz told me i needed to blog. so here it goes.

i used to go through life thinking "oh this would make a perfect blog" and then i would get home and type it out. maybe include a picture or two. add a few links and call it a day.

and now i just don't have those thoughts. if something particularly noteworthy happens throughout the day i will just twitter about it. and then i get home and look at my blog and know that i want to post something but then i just don't have anything new to share. especially considering the fact that most of you who read this also follow me on twitter.

so i am going to try to recap the summer so far:
movies, quelf, friends, jr high, adventures, watchers, sleep-overs, bbqs, beach, disneyland, secrets, parties, nocturnal, art, music, family, nail polish, building, cleaning, change, catching up, guitar hero, how i met your mother, gossip girl, up!, derassi, say yes to the dress, lemonade, sunshine, wii, good byes, isp send offs, los angeles, and new friends.

things i am looking forward to:
chicago for my birthday!
summer camp!

movies.

it has been drawn to my attention that there are a lot of "classic movies" that i just have not seen. movies such as

  • signs
  • the ring
  • risky business
  • dumb an dumber
  • the goonies
  • godfather
  • monty python
  • indiana jones
  • termanator
  • the matrix
  • braveheart
  • the bourne movies
  • final destination
so if anyone out there thinks that i just simply MUST watch one of these movies then i am down. movie night?

salvation mountain.

yesterday i went on an adventure to salvation mountain with alisha, josiah, and kevin.
seriously the coolest thing ever.
can i please do something awesome and meaningful with my life please?
on the way there we stayed on the 10 a little too long and ended up in the middle of nowhere.
it was a cool place for a quick photo tho.
the self timer feature on cameras was a wonderful invention.
seriously i have had a great summer so far. i have loved spending time with lots of different people and getting to do some awesome things.
1 month down.
3 more to go!

6.58/10

anaface.com takes your face and uses geometry to determine how beautiful your face is.

from their FAQ page: Our specific algorithm is proprietary, but we take into account many factors from neoclassical beauty, modern research papers, and our own scientific studies/statistical analysis.  Examples include things such as comparing innerocular distance to mouth width and nose width to face height.

i got a 6.58
my eyes are too small.
and my nose is too wide.

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

i love southern california.

i love so cal.

where else could you plan to go to the beach. then on the way there change your mind and head into hollywood.
and then drive around bel aire and see michael jackson's house, and the jonas brothers house.
then go back to hollywood blvd and see a taping of the jimmy kimmel show.

and then end the night with a trip to the santa monica pier with a ride on the ferris wheel.

now, make a fist. slowly ease it up underneath your chin.

when i was in jr high the cool thing to do was to go to the mall with your bff find matching shirts, buy them and then go to photmakers to get pictures taken.
you could get 50 wallets each for 20 bucks or something.
then the next day you go to school and pass them out to 50 of your closest friends and write something sentimental on the back like "hey gurlie, i am sooo glad we r friends. stay sweet. don't ever change. love rachel."

found this photo while cleaning my room. i think that this is me in 7th grade with my friend eleanor. well i mean i know it's me and eleanor, but im not sure what year.

you got to pick the background and the color. if you were a ba you would get flames, but we simply chose the cosmic blue background. sometimes they would put random pillars in the background. and the fist under the chin was a must.

hooligans.

for some reason tonight i was reminiscing about what me and my friends used to do in high school for fun. and all my favorite memories seem to be filled with vandalism, and trespassing.

well you see in my day i have ceran wrapped a bunch of cars.
and tp-ed quite a few houses.  (and forked, and tortillaed, and coned, and garage saled)
and snuck onto a few golf courses to go ice blocking.
but all that fun pretty much stopped when we turned 18.
i think the reason for stopping was that now we were "real adults" and if we were caught we could go to "real jail" for our crimes.

and im going to turn 21 this summer and sometimes i just want to go tp a house. but i feel like i am too old for that. and no one would want to go with me.

the other thing we use to do was go to elementary schools and play tag or sardines or virus or hide and go seek games. and i really miss it.

pink eye.

it seems to be a trend that i am always cleaning my room when i am at my home. moving back and forth from school makes it really hard for me to stay organized.

just found my madeline doll.
you know, in a old house in paris, covered with vines
twelve little girls in two straight lines
blah blah blah, they broke their bread, something about  half past nine.
the smallest one is MADELINE.

but for some reason when i was little i took a red marker and drew around her eyes and gave her pink eye.

country and lots of blogs.

this is a screenshot of my google reader right now.

i have so many unread blogs that i need to catch up on right now.

the past few weeks i really haven't had time to just sit down and read the hundreds of blogs im subscribed to.

except for the blogs in my friends folder, i always keep up on those.

so now i guess ill get started on these.

side note.
i hate country music. one of the main things we argued about in louisiana was music choice. it just annoys me.

but then last week jackie went and bought taylor swift's new album. and we listened to it. and i really like it. i don't know that i really accept the country style of it, but i really really like her lyrics. when im listening i just want to be her friend. she seems like such a cool girl. and i just want to hang out with her.

so i don't know if i should give any other country artists a chance now.
is there anyone out there worth my time?

summer 2009.

i can not believe summer 2009 is already here.

this blog is more for my own reflection rather than your reading pleasure. so whoever you are, if you decided not to read this blog that is totally understandable.

so far my summer vacation has been pretty good.
tuesday morning some of my roommates (manada and christina) woke me up and told me we were going to disneyland. so we went. just for the morning tho.

when i got back to school i had to start packing up my room. jacob and his friend charles came to help me move my stuff. that was so nice, i didn't really have to carry anything out. corinne and i then made a cribs stye video tour of our cottage. stay tuned, will be posting that soon. also took a trip to rite aid to get some ice cream with jennifer. that was a funny experience, we went to one and all their ice cream was frozen solid and they couldn't scoop into it. so we called another rite aid. and they were out of the flavors we wanted so we had to go to a third rite aid.

wednesday everyone from my cottage woke up and ate breakfast together. i am seriously so blessed to have gotten the opportunity to live with those girls this year. when i tell people that i lived in the cottage they normally said, "wow. nine girls all in that tiny house, how can you handle it?" but really we all got along so well. im excited that i get to live with three of the girls next year: corinne, justine, and molly. amy and teresa will be graduating on saturday and i will miss them for sure. and then amanda and christina both live close enough that i hope to see them this summer.

then after i moved out of my room i went to disneyland with jackie sam and andrew. but we were only there for a few hours. it was fun though. we watched honey i shrunk the audience... haven't seen that in years. it's always fun to do something new... or old.

when we got back to cbu the most random group of people had assembled for a late night beach trip. random group. so we went to the beach. walked around. and just sat on the sand.

then i spent the night at jackie's apt. because after being checked out of my housing assignment for  9 hours i still wanted to sleep at school.

then thursday morning we woke up and went to buy a bunch of tickets for the midnight showing of wovlerine. i came home and took a nap.

then i helped my mom cook some curry for dinner. delicious. i think im going to have a little bit more after i post this blog. we watched the office together and i really missed corinne and jordan who i normally watch it with.

then i went to the plaza to wait for wolverine to start. the theater was out of control full of cbu people. it was fun.  and we stayed behind to watch the final scene that plays after the credits roll. well someone stopped the movie and we all missed the final 10ish seconds of the movie and they gave everyone replacement tickets. nice.

well that has been my last three days. its been fun. if you actually read this blog im sorry for boring you. and im sorry for my worse than normal grammar and spelling. but it is 4 in the morning, so give me a break.
goodnight.

sippy cup.

i really enjoy the spontaneous things that happen in my life.

today after the male choral concert and dinner we had nothing to do. until we decided to walk to cvs and grab some goodies.

it was andrew's birthday so we bought some birthday candles because earlier at dinner he had forgotten to make a wish when he blew out his candle so we had to give him another shot. but we didn't have a cake, so we just all held a candle.

we also bout sippy cups and decorated them with sequins and googly eyes and glitter glue.
because what 20 year old wouldn't love to drink out of a cup with a built in straw?
im voting we take our cups to the caf and use them.

my website.

for one of my classes we had to make a website.

its my first time using dreamweaver so i learned a lot.

check out my site.

a few of you are even in it.
feel honored and loved.

jr high camping trip.

just got back from the jr high spring break beach camping trip. with a grand total of 51 7th and 8th graders.
they are an energetic, wild, and crazy bunch. seriously the weirdest age group out there. well, i guess the 80 and up crowd can be entertaining at times. (side note, my grandmother sent me a text message yesterday.)
we played a lot of ninja, which is a bunch of fun.

and the weather was beautiful. i guess it rained a little but in the night, but i slept right through it.

what shape is cheese?

i really don't know what made me think of this question, but tonight at dinner i asked cindy and holly "what shape is cheese?"

holly said "triangle"
and cindy said "brick"

what shape do you think cheese is?

i would agree with holly and say triangle.
her reasoning was that if you are playing pictionary and getting someone to guess cheese you would draw a triangle one.
you would probably also make it swiss cheese with holes and everything.

what shape do you think cheese is?

a gift from my parents.

today i wore my billy joel/elton john shirt. i felt pretty cool. not gunna lie.

i feel like i should say more, but the shirt really was the whole reason for this blog.

now its time for bed, i think im going to read for a while tho, because my roommate is still up working on a project and it just feels weird to fall asleep before her.

oh so next year i will be living in the "global village" its an area where students get to live with international students and like get to know them and all kinda of fun stuff. im really excited about this because im not going on a mission trip this summer, and i have gone somewhere every summer for the past few years, but i will have this awesome ministry opportunity waiting for me back at school.

overwhelmed.

i had a great spring break.
really, it was a good one.
i got to hang out with some friends i rarely see, relax, watch lots of tv, sleep in my bed at home, play with my dog, you know, good stuff.

and then i got to go camping with this great group of people (plus paul, who is taking the picture):
we went camping at silverwood lake from thursday till sunday. and honestly i was a little worried. i just felt like four days was a little much.
but it was not. i had so much fun. we just hang out by the lake, played games, napped, hiked around, made movies, and other fun things.
i got sun burnt, but i also got some new friends and a million inside jokes.

but my week has been so busy.
i have been spending so much time in the gdm lab just working on different projects and stuff. im actually here right now. just taking a break from class and squeezing in a quick blog.
im peeling and my lips hurt because they are super chapped.

im afraid.

i have never really been one for new years resolutions.
but this year i decided that my goal was to become a better photographer and just to be more confident.

i really don't know what im doing. but im trying to learn. im reading lots of photog blogs and stuff, but its hard for me to just go out and shoot. i guess i just feel pressure to be good, but i need to accept that there is just this learning stage i need to get through. im kinda intimidated by the friends i have who are photographers, because they are al really talented. when i really should just ask for help.

today i asked my little bro, jacob if i could go into our backyard and take pictures of him.
i liked a few of them, but i think this one is my fave.
you should also check out his myspace music site.

oh the world we live in.

earlier today liiiz gave me a hard time about not blogging as much as i used to, so all day long i have been thinking about what i should blog about.

and then i remembered this:
oh facebook and the world we live in.
when i had a fb notification that diane smith had commented greg's status i knew i was busted.

and that is a picture from this weekend's trip to disneyland. there we are spelling out YMCA on the tower of terror.
